Mic Deane | Queer & Neurodivergent Therapist
About Me
Who I am
I identify as a queer, cisgender, neurodivergent woman and my preferred pronouns are she/her. As a white settler who grew up in Ireland, I am grateful to now live and practice on the unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ peoples.
I've been in therapy at multiple points in my life, and it has changed me in many ways. I wouldn’t be who I am today without the therapists who sat with me through the hardest parts.
I name these things because you deserve to know who is sitting across from you, what I carry, and what I can't fully know from my own experience.
We might work well together if…
You want a therapist who is warm but direct, someone who will validate your experiences but also challenge you when it could be helpful. I’m the kind of therapist who can sit with your dark humour (while getting curious about what's underneath it sometimes too!). I don’t want our sessions to feel like you’re coming to a doctor’s office, and it was important for me to choose a therapy space I could see my clients feeling comfortable and relaxed in.
My approach is collaborative and anti-oppressive, which means we look at the bigger picture together. The shame, the patterns, the exhaustion didn't come from nowhere – and we won't pretend they did. I'm interested in the systems and stories you've been moving through, not just what's happening on the inside.
I'll always do my best to understand experiences that aren't mine, stay curious about what I don't know so that I grow and learn, and be honest when something is outside my area of competence.
A little more about me
I LOVE to read – mostly literary fiction about queer and trans people, addiction, relationships, and motherhood. Fiction is underrated as a way of stepping into lives and experiences that aren't yours, and I think it makes you a better human. I'm aiming to read 50 books this year and Bellies by Nicola Dinan is one of my recent favourites. If you have a recommendation, I want it!
I adore cats and have a ten-year-old one-eyed orange cat named Chilli. Despite the “It’s a Boy!” banner in the picture, this photo was not from a gender reveal party (I feel weird about those), it was from his adoption party. Unfortunately, a “Congratulations On Your Adoption!” banner was a little tricky to locate. Luckily he didn’t mind too much because he can’t read.
I’m at my best when spending time with my loved ones and eating vegan sweet treats, and believe that laughter is one of the most healing things there is. My values are community, authenticity, learning, inclusion, and connection. They're the reason I do this work, and they shape how I show up in every session.
