Areas I can support you with

I work with individuals (adults) and couples navigating a wide range experiences. If something below resonates, click through - each page goes into more detail about how we might work together.

These are the areas I work with most, but not seeing yourself in this list doesn't mean I can't help. Get in touch and let me know what's going on for you – that's what the free consultation is for!

You can book one with me here.

My therapeutic approach

I draw on a range of approaches depending on what you need, always through a feminist, social justice, and systemic lens. Here's a bit about what that looks like in practice.

Narrative Therapy

We all carry stories about who we are, what we're capable of, and what we deserve. Some of those stories were handed to us by families, systems, and a world that didn't always have our best interests at heart. Narrative therapy helps you examine those stories, separate the ones that are truly yours, and begin to rewrite the ones that aren't serving you anymore.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS is built on the idea that we're all made up of different parts, and that the parts of us that cause the most trouble are usually trying to protect us in some way. This approach creates space to get curious about those parts rather than fighting them, and to build a more compassionate relationship with yourself.

Psychodynamic Therapy

The past has a way of showing up in the present without an invitation. Psychodynamic therapy helps us look at how early experiences, relationships, and patterns are quietly shaping your life today, and what it might look like to stop being held back by them.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a practical, skills-based approach that looks at the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. I draw on it most when working with ADHD and helping clients build concrete tools for executive functioning, daily structure, and managing the patterns that keep getting in the way.

Emotion-focused therapy (EFT)

EFT works with emotion as a source of information rather than something to manage or push aside. It's particularly powerful in couples work, helping partners understand the deeper feelings and needs underneath conflict and find their way back to connection.

Relational Therapy

At the heart of my work is the relationship between us. Relational therapy recognizes that how you connect with others - and with me in the room - can be a powerful source of insight and healing. It's less about technique and more about what happens when two people show up honestly together.

Coverage & Sliding Scale

While my RCC application is being processed, sessions won't be covered by extended health benefits. I'll update this as soon as that changes.

My rates are currently reduced while my RCC registration is pending, so I'm not offering sliding scale at this time. Once my rates increase after registration, I'll be offering a limited number of sliding scale spots to make sure counselling stays accessible. I give priority to clients who identify as trans, non-binary, gender-diverse, or BIPOC, including couples where one or more partners holds these identities.

If you have questions about this or want to be kept in the loop when sliding scale spots open up, feel free to reach out via email at info@micdeanecounselling.com.

If this feels like the kind of support you’ve been looking for, I’d love to hear from you.
